Do not confuse website favicons with app icons. I have noticed that in most online articles, the authors have mixed-up the app icons with browser favicons. Some articles have even wrongly confused website favicons with extension icons of browser. [RD]

Website favicons are different from web apps in different ways. For example, it is recommended that you should create multiple icons in different sizes and image formats for progressive web apps. However, your website must have only have one favicon to display it in Google search results. [RD]
