How I Customize Cookie Settings in Edge Browser?

Everyone may change settings related to cookies in Edge browser. Here is my way for customizing cookies in Edge browser.

  • Allow sites to save and read cookie data: Turned ON.

  • Block third-party cookies: Turned OFF. It means I allow third-party cookies.

  • Preload pages for faster browsing and searching: I toggle it ON.

How to Block or Allow Cookies from Certain Websites?

Edge browser allows you to block certain websites from placing cookies in your device. You can enter URLs of website domains to block both first party as well as third-party cookies.

Click Three Dots for ‘Settings and More’ (or press Alt+F) in top right corner of Edge browser → SettingsCookies and site permissionsManage and delete cookies and site data.

Click on ‘Add’ next to Block and then enter proper URL in the field.

It is very rare for me to block a website from saving or reading cookies. I do not use this option for blocking cookies for most sites. You can read Dozro article, whether you should allow or block cookies.

Similarly, you can also allow certain websites to save cookies on your device. This is a good option if you have turned OFF the toggle, next to ‘Allow sites to save and read cookie data’ option at the top of page.

Similarly, in the next option, you can add sites to clear cookies, passwords, browsing history after you close browser each time. I suggest you should use this option sparingly. I don’t prefer to clear cookies and other sites, on each exit, for sites, I regularly browse.

Cookies and site data you've temporarily allowed

When you have selected strict privacy for cookies, some websites will require you to allow cookies for proper functionality and thus browser will pop up a notice where you can allow or block cookies from that specific site. The allowed websites will be able to save cookies and track your browsing activity for next 30 days only.

The list of such allowed sites will appear here under ‘Cookies and site data you've temporarily allowed’ option.

However, you have the option in Edge browser to delete cookies from those sites earlier than 30 days, by clicking the ‘See all cookies and site data’ option.

How to See Cookies Stored in Your Device?

You can see cookies for one or multiple sites stored in your device, through following settings in Edge browser.

Click three dots … in top right corner of Edge window → SettingsCookies and Site PermissionsManage and delete cookies and site dataSee all cookies and site dataAll cookies and site data → click on any domain (website) name.

You can see detailed information about any cookies such as name of cookie, creation and expiry dates of a cookie. You can delete cookies from specific websites.

How can You Secure Yourself While Browsing Websites?

  • Modern browsers employ sophisticated systems to automatically thwart risks related to cookies. Cookies are not stored alongside your other data in device. Browsers partition storage, to allot a dedicated location for cookies for secure browsing environment. If you use both Edge and Chrome browsers on your device, both browsers will use separate caches.

  • Always try to browse secure websites with encrypted connections, to thwart hackers attempting to steal your payment credentials and transferring money out of your bank account.

  • Never user pirated software. Always install original software for apps and programs so that you can get vital security updates.

  • Always keep your device software, Windows, bios, browsers up to date.

  • You can prefer to block third-party cookies, but at the cost of browsing experience and slow page loading.

  • You can see your activity and privacy tools in your Microsoft account. 🔗 URL https://account.microsoft.com/privacy/
