Microsoft Edge Account Settings Create and Delete Browser Profile, Sync Data Across Devices

This is a concise guide for adding an additional browser profile as well as sync settings in Microsoft Edge.

Settings Location

You can access settings for changes in profile and account through following navigation in Edge browser.

Click Three Dots for ‘Settings and More’ (or press Alt+F) → SettingsProfiles.

You can do following tweaks through these settings.

Create Additional Profile for Microsoft Edge

You can add additional profiles; for example, one personal profile and another for your business or work. Please note that after adding a new profile, Edge browser in new profile will appear in default settings which you can customize one by one. You can easily switch to your preferred profile here. By the way I prefer to keep only one profile. It means that you can use more than two or more Edge browsers on your device.

To create an additional profile in Microsoft Edge, Click Three Dots for ‘Settings and More’ (or press Alt+F) → SettingsProfilesAdd Profile, on top of page.

To Access the settings in Microsoft Edge mobile browser, click ‘three dots’ (…) on bottom of phone screen, Settings → click + button under account to add personal, or work account.

To make the other Edge browser profile stay visible on PC taskbar, click your profile image on top right, and open the second Edge profile. Now on taskbar, right-click on the Edge icon and and pin it to the taskbar.

If you have created multiple profiles for personal and work, you can select profile preferences under ‘Profiles’ in Edge settings.

How to Uninstall or Delete Edge Browser

In Android mobile phone, long press the logo of Edge browser and hit on little ‘X’ and the Edge browser will be deleted.

In your Windows computer, Edge browser is the default web browser and you cannot uninstall it.

Please refer this Microsoft Edge support article to know why you can’t delete the Microsoft Edge from a Windows PC.

Change Profile Photo in Edge Browser

On Profiles page in settings, click ‘three dots’ next to your profile name and then click ‘edit’ option. Here, you can change the name and picture of your profile.

Please note that this change applies to your primary Microsoft account and profile picture will automatically be changed in all other assets of your Microsoft account, for example in office apps (MS Word).

Microsoft Account Dashboard from Edge Browser

You can see here a link to manage your Microsoft account for changing password or selecting passwordless account, or adding two step authentications, adding payments, signed-in devices and more.

You can review and manage your passwords and security in your Microsoft account dashboard. 🔗 URL: https://account.microsoft.com/security

Sync Data Across Devices

I suggest you that you should sync your browser data across multiple devices, for making your life easier. For example, you have three devices - one desktop computer, one laptop and one mobile phone – you should sync favorites saved links, browser settings, basic info for quick auto-fills in online forms, passwords for secure and easy sign-in in all devices, sync browsing history for quickly re-opening webpages, and collections.

You can do this by clicking Sync option under Profiles and then toggle ON the items which you want to sync.

Syncing is good option; for example, if I have turned ON Sync for ‘Favorites’ I can quickly access all of my saved links for my favorite websites on computer as well as my mobile phone. If I add or remove an item from one device, it will be automatically updated in other devices.

According to Microsoft support documents, synced passwords and personal data is saved in cloud to keep you signed-in across your devices.

“To speed up tedious tasks like filling out forms and entering passwords, Microsoft Edge can save info to help. If you choose to use those features, Microsoft Edge stores the info on your device. If you’ve turned on sync for form fill like addresses or passwords, this info will be sent to the Microsoft cloud and stored with your Microsoft account to be synced across all your signed-in versions of Microsoft Edge.”

I will suggest you create only one Microsoft account, through single email, for all Microsoft services including Edge, OneDrive, Outlook, and Office apps.
