Story of Getting My First Order on Fiverr
I got the first organic order on Fiverr after 15 months of the account creation. I knew that some freelancers get fake orders for the purpose of securing reviews on their Fiverr profile – such as asking some friend or a family member to place order on their gigs. However, I never attempted to get the self-initiated order because I do not believe on unethical things in life – this is the reason that my YouTube channel has only 200 subscribers even after passing of one year.
Of course, I created Fiverr account for the purpose of earning money, but I was least interested in the immediate orders due to the following main reasons:
I was busy in creating content for Dozro website as well as educational videos for my YouTube channels.
I was more focused on offering services on my own website rather than the freelance platforms, due to the simple reason that I do not own the freelance platform and without any reason they can kick me out anytime from using their platform.
Therefore, I mentioned higher prices on my Fiverr gigs to discourage the cheaper orders.
So, the question arises: if was not interested in immediate orders then why I created Fiverr account too early?
Because I understand the internet technologies – the algorithms require some time for establishing trust, for example, a new website will not immediately appear in the search engine results, and similarly YouTube will take some time before widely promoting videos of a new channel. So, I created account on Fiverr, so that before the maturity of that account and winning the algo trust, I should establish a solid foundation for my own website.
One day morning;
I received email from Fiverr that a client had messaged me. I opened the Fiverr dashboard. A client from the United States sent me some pictures and asked me to create a similar ‘favicon’ image. I suggested to the client that his current images are not right for a favicon because a large image having an illustration and the complete brand name is not appropriate to be displayed in browser tab. The client insisted on designing the image like his current images. I guessed that in fact, the client is requesting for a logo design – not the favicon. This example signifies that most clients know nothing about the specs – therefore, it is necessary for a freelancer to using common sense try understand the true requirements of clients and guide them accordingly.
So, I created a logo design according to the requirement of the client – keeping the icon image but just replacing the text in the provided logo image of client. I also created two additional designs adding the icon of my own choice. I sent all images to the client through Fiverr message window. The client approved the design which I had created as an extra choice. The tip for you is that always provide some extra than what the client is demanding. As the design requirement was too simple, I offered to create it in only $10 – though the actual price on my gig was $50.
As the client was already happy with the creative, therefore, I clicked the “Make an Offer” button from inside the Fiverr message window and started the order.
Pro Tips:
The tip for you is that Fiverr allows to create a temporary gig for offering any custom price for a service. Another tip for you is that always convince the clients to message you before placing the actual order on the gig. This way, you can present sample designs to client and after he is satisfied then you can initiate the actual order. This way, you can minimize the chances of any negative reviews. Please remember to put a watermark (a cross line) on your design before sending it to a client through message.
So, I removed my watermark from the design and delivered it in three sizes, although the client required the logo in only one size – here again I provided something extra to the client.
The client approved the project and paid for it. I wrote a review about the client with five star rating.
After few minutes, the client messaged me again and requested to create three more designs by just replacing the text in the earlier design. Instead of offering the price myself, I sent the following message to the client.
The client offered $10 for the images. As it was just a copy paste project, I started the project in $8 – instead of $10 offered by the client.
Pro Tip:
As it was a new project, I selected another gig of Favicon to link with the project – I linked his earlier order with a separate gig about Logo creation. My purpose for this was to get the order count as well as separate reviews on each gig – although both times the project was of the same nature i.e. designing a logo image.
The client immediately accepted the delivered order and paid for it. The client also left 5-star reviews on both gigs.
As my Fiverr account profile was neglected for a long time, so, after getting the reviews, I improved the outlook of gigs. I also took the Fiverr tests and the passed tests were immediately displayed on my profile. Please remember that after getting the initial reviews on your gigs, the chances of receiving orders from other clients will increase tremendously.
So, this was the story of my first order on Fiverr. I hope you have also learned some tips while reading this inspirational story.
I have a similar story of organically getting the first order for my Upwork profile. The Upwork project was about validating the DNS records of a GoDaddy domain. The satisfied US based client also gifted me the bonus of $30.
